The IBF Mentoring Programme has been running since the middle of 2008 with approximately 30 member company representatives acting as mentors or mentorees. Throughout the year, the IBF runs special seminars specifically on the topic of mentoring and continues to support the existing mentoring teams in any way possible. THE STORY BEHIND THE MENTORING PROGRAMME
Some time ago one of the IBF Directors, Jo Weaver, was asked to join a mentoring scheme, whereby she made herself available for young entrepreneurs to meet on a monthly basis and to discuss the problems or otherwise that they were having in promoting or marketing their businesses. Since those early days, most of the ‘mentorees’ have become her friends and one became a client for her company! Unfortunately, however, the company organizing the mentoring scheme stopped this initiative during the course of 2007.
Later that same year, at a conference discussing the shortage of young entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic, one of the speakers, a Professor in Leadership Skills, asked the audience whether there were any serious mentoring schemes organized for young entrepreneurs, to which the answer was an emphatic ‘no’. When asked, however, whether members of the audience would be interested in such a scheme, the answer was, without any question, ‘yes’!
As a result of these two different incidences, the IBF decided to launch its own internal ‘mentoring scheme’, whereby individuals from member companies agreed to make themselves available to mentor other individuals from other member companies upon request.
